Materials & Care Questions

To prolong the life of your Soasa jewelry we always recommend that you remove your jewelry at night, when showering, swimming, and before applying perfumes, sprays or lotions. Mild detergent and a soft cloth are always a good first step before using any type of polishing material. Particularly fine chains should be handled with special care, and pearls and stones may not respond well to polishing dips or compounds.

Sterling silver is 92.5% (.925) pure silver metal. This standard is used to assure consistent quality among sterling products. Sterling is 92.5% pure instead of 100% pure in order to achieve the requisite hardness and stability to resist wear and tear, and hold its shape.

Care and Cleaning:

Though the quickest to tarnish, sterling silver is perhaps the most forgiving jewelry metal when it comes to cleaning. Extensive use of abrasive polishing will wear it down, but Sunshine cloths are a great way to keep it looking good.

Gold-filled is a layered gold product. It is a quality material that is common in all types of jewelry. The product is easy to care for and will usually maintain its golden shine for a lifetime. Gold-filled is legally required to contain 5% or 1/20 gold by weight.

Care and Cleaning:
Gold-filled does not tarnish as readily as silver. Many owners find that they never have to clean gold-filled items at all. However, from time to time your jewelry may become dirty from everyday wear. To clean gold-filled it is best to use mild soap and water. Hot weather and water will not damage the material.

This “Vermeil style” gold plate is offered in a satin finish with a 24 karat yellow gold color. The plating process uses 98.5% pure gold over sterling silver with a fine layer of nickel in between for longevity. It is a gem quality plating that is 40x thicker than typical gold plate.

Care and Cleaning:

Buffing your gold-plated jewelry with a soft cloth is an effective way to keep your pieces lustrous. If you use a jewelry polishing cloth, make sure the cloth is meant for polishing GOLD. For example, do not use a Sunshine Polishing cloth, which is formulated for silver and contains micro-abrasives, on gold plate. Using a polishing cloth that is meant for another metal besides gold could permanently damage your gold-plated items.

Niobium is an elemental metal which is strong yet flexible. Niobium is chemically non-reactive, therefore very hypoallergenic.

Care and Cleaning:

Niobium should be cleaned with mild soap and water, not abrasive polishing cloths. Abrasives will dull the surface over time.

Care and Cleaning:

TierraCast pewter products should be cleaned with mild soap and water, not abrasive polishing cloths. Abrasives will dull and destroy the surface over time.

“We are proud to say that our entire natural brass product line is made and packaged in the USA. Our hand finishing process is eco-friendly. Natural brass is solid brass made up of 85% copper and 15% zinc and is not antique plated. It is nickel and lead free.” – Vintaj Brass Co.

Care and Cleaning:

Mild detergent and a soft cloth will clean your brass without destroying the patina. DO NOT use abrasive materials on Vintaj Brass and for best results remove your jewelry at night, when showering, swimming, and before applying perfumes, sprays or lotions.
